RESUMO
O método de escavação arqueológica, que
já faz parte da cultura arqueológica brasileira e, que há vários anos não sofre
mudanças metodológicas é o conhecido “método arbitrário por quadriculas”. Este
método já é considerado obsoleto e impróprio para escavações arqueológicas,
principalmente em sítios visivelmente estratificados. Este artigo mostra as
deficiências do método arbitrário e propõe uma reflexão sobre a importância de
interpretar o contexto arqueológico por meio de uma escavação estratigráfica.

ABSTRACT
The method of archaeological excavation that is
already part of the archaeological Brazilian culture and the several years does
not suffer methodological changes is the known "arbitrary method by
grid." This method has long considered obsolete and inappropriate for
archaeological excavations, especially in visibly stratified sites. This paper
shows the shortcomings of the arbitrary method and proposes a reflection and
the importance of interpreting the archaeological context through of the
stratigraphic excavation.
