RESUMO
Este artigo pretende abordar alguns aspectos referentes à noção de patrimônio em seus vários significados, a importância de se preservar, para que preservar e primordialmente ressaltar os discursos referentes à História de Areia, destacando sua relevância na esfera estadual assim como na nacional, dada a sua condição de Cidade Histórica tombada junto ao Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico Nacional (IPHAN).

ABSTRACT
This article aims to address some aspects concerning to the notion of heritage in its various meanings, the importance of preserving, why to preserve and primarily to highlight the discourses about the History of Areia, highlighting its relevance at the state level as well as in national, because of its condition of Historic Town tumbled to the Institute of National Heritage (IPHAN).
